Bratwurst-Gemüse-Spieße

Skewered sausage with lots of vegetables

July 26th, 2019 | main dishes

Sausages are boring for a BBQ? Then you should try and do some bratwurst Ikebana… Zucchini, sweet potatoes and a good organic bratwurst – skewered – and off you go.

Skewered sausage with lots of vegetables

Today it is just too hot to cook a lot, so we’ll have something very, very simple. These bratwurst skewers can be prepared very well, they look appealing and above all: no sausage can roll from the grill grate 😉

Crunchy vegetables, fresh herbs and the sausage are cooked at the same time, cut into strips so everyone gets his portion of sausage and vegetables. A delicious aioli or a good, fine mustard, of course crispy baguette bread and the bratwurst pleasure can start.

Bratwurst vegetable skewers

(makes 6 skewers)

1 thick, long, yellow and green zucchini
3 elongated sweet potatoes
cut the zucchini and sweet potatoes into slices of about 2 mm with the vegetable slicer
3 TS olive oil
salt, pepper from the mill
5 sprigs of lemon thyme
brush the zucchini and sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper and layer alternately with thyme leaves or twigs
10 Thuringian bratwurst (organic)
6 skewers
skewer Bratwurst and vegetable alternating as shown in the photo
grill the skewers on the hot grill for approximately 4-5 minutes per side, then cut into three individual skewers and serve with aioli and bread

Carinthian cake – like on the alp

An Austrian farmer’s wife gave me the recipe for this traditional Carinthian cake. Many years ago, when there was no internet and no airbnb, we had rented their mountain hut for the summer holidays. A hut without running water, without electricity and light. But with a wood stove, ringing cowbells, marmots and heavenly peace. As a welcome gift, we found this cake on the table. When I bake it today, I can almost smell the hut.
