Skewered sausage with lots of vegetables

July 26th, 2019 | main dishes

Sausages are boring for a BBQ? Then you should try and do some bratwurst Ikebana… Zucchini, sweet potatoes and a good organic bratwurst – skewered – and off you go.

Skewered sausage with lots of vegetables

Today it is just too hot to cook a lot, so we’ll have something very, very simple. These bratwurst skewers can be prepared very well, they look appealing and above all: no sausage can roll from the grill grate 😉

Crunchy vegetables, fresh herbs and the sausage are cooked at the same time, cut into strips so everyone gets his portion of sausage and vegetables. A delicious aioli or a good, fine mustard, of course crispy baguette bread and the bratwurst pleasure can start.

Bratwurst vegetable skewers

(makes 6 skewers)

1 thick, long, yellow and green zucchini
3 elongated sweet potatoes
cut the zucchini and sweet potatoes into slices of about 2 mm with the vegetable slicer
3 TS olive oil
salt, pepper from the mill
5 sprigs of lemon thyme
brush the zucchini and sweet potatoes with olive oil, salt, pepper and layer alternately with thyme leaves or twigs
10 Thuringian bratwurst (organic)
6 skewers
skewer Bratwurst and vegetable alternating as shown in the photo
grill the skewers on the hot grill for approximately 4-5 minutes per side, then cut into three individual skewers and serve with aioli and bread

Women’s power and the color lilac

Therefore, maybe my favorite color lilac was somewhat of a guide when I placed my first wine order in Nierstein [also known as Riesling city at the banks of river Rhine]. Because Lisa likes lilac. Now, the shooting star of the young German wine makers has promised to give her personal wine recommendations for selected Captain’s Dinner menus. And this is the way it happened.

Carne de vinha d'alho - marinated pork with wine-garlic sauce and slices of orange and lemon December 12th, 2018 | main dishes

Carne de vinha d’alho (pork in wine-garlic sauce)

We remember this dish as a very special Christmas dinner on Madeira island. It is already a few years back, we had booked very spontaneously. Arriving on the 24th of December, without any restaurant reservation for the holidays. Just following our noses at Christmas day we ended up in a small fisherman bar near to Maddalena do Mar. The tiny bar was packed. We were the only tourists. There was no menu, and apparently only one single dish. “Christmas dinner”, they told us.

Asparagus with vanilla hollandaise, garnished with lemon balm April 25th, 2019 | main dishes

Vanilla hollandaise with asparagus

At home, we love the first asparagus in the season quite classically with smoked ham, Sauce Hollandaise and the first new potatoes. But then we love to have varieties. Since my dearest captain always likes to bring home the very best vanilla from his travels, there is nothing better than refining a hollandaise with it.
