Onion Cake with Pears, Blue Cheese and Walnut

Onion cake with pear and walnuts

October 7th, 2018 | main dishes

Onion cake belongs to fall like falling leaves, mushrooms, fog and a bit of sentiment that summer is going on. This autumn, I changed my classic a bit and turned it into a tart. And what goes well with onions? Bacon, of course, and pears and blue cheese. A few walnuts on top – and the beautiful autumn soul warmer is ready.

Sure, I’m an absolute supporter of “homemade food”. I try to buy as little processed food as possible. Convenience normally is not on our table. With this onion cake, however, a ready-made pizza dough from the cooling shelf is a great alternative if things need to be done quickly. Thus, I can turn a blind eye – after all, you have already shed enough tears when cutting onions…

Who does not like blue cheese, can replace it with grated Parmesan!

Cicchetti: Crostini with tuna June 27th, 2019 | starter

Ombre & Cicchetti – Venetian lifestyle

In the past, winemakers in Venice sold their wine on St. Mark’s Square, rolling their wine barrels in the shadow of the Campanile. Hence the name “Ombra”, because Ombra means shadow. From eleven o’clock in the morning almost every Venetian drinks his first glass, his ombra. What is by no means lacking are the famous Venetian Cicchetti. These are the most sophisticated little appetizers you can think of.

Christmas "Schokoli" are cookies with chocolate, tonka bean, stuffed with a hazelnut kernel December 9th, 2018 | bread & pastries

Christmas “Schokoli” with tonka bean

Christmas “Schokoli” are chocolate cookies of my childhood. We made them every Advent season. I refined my mother’s recipe with a bit of tonka bean. This is how the small, tender chocolate balls taste even better! And somehow even more Christmassy!

Gratinated sauerkrat rolls February 21st, 2020 | main dishes

Pasta & Sauerkraut – why not?

The sauerkraut classic from Max and Moritz – who doesn’t know it? My recipe for sauerkraut rolls, however, doesn’t have much to do with the hearty, heavy and “typically German” side dish of knuckle and meat loaf. Homemade pasta dough wraps the vitamin-packed sauerkraut – and if you leave out the bacon, it’ll even be vegetarian!
